Kitchen Assistant (x1)

Job Purpose

The job holder assists the Chef with food preparations and service by active involvement in the daily operations of the kitchen. He/she is also responsible for cleaning food preparation areas, food storage areas, kitchen floors and equipment.

Core Duties

1. Assist the Chef with food preparations as requested

2. Ensures that only students with valid meal cards are served with meals in the University cafeteria.

3. Cleans food preparation areas and equipment

4. Assists the Chef as requested in inventorying and stocking food products and supplies

5. Assist the Chef in supervising students in their work chores in the kitchen

6. Ensures that all equipment and utensils are stored in appropriate locations after meals.

7. Perform the Chef’s duties in his absence

8. Perform all other duties as assignee.

Qualifications and experience

• Grade 12 School Certificate
• Certificate in Catering
• 2 years in a busy kitchen
