Reporting to Superintendent – Mining Contracts & Projects

Lumwana Mining Company Limited (LMC), a copper mining company owned by Barrick Gold Corporation is situated in the North Western region of Zambia, some 300 km west of the Zambian Copperbelt and 95 km south west of the provincial capital of Solwezi. The mine is a multi-pit, multi staged operation mining approximately 100MT of ore and waste per annum and producing copper concentrates containing an average of 120,000 tonnes of copper metal per year over a twenty (20) year mine life, making Lumwana the largest single open cut copper mine in Africa. The Company is now looking for an experienced and qualified individual to be considered for the position of Mining Contracts and Projects Coordinator.

Role Summary

Reporting to the Superintendent – Mining Contracts & Projects, you will be responsible for coordinating operational projects and mining contractors inorder to assist the mining operation to focus on meeting production targets.

Your duties will include but not limited to the following:

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the overall performance of the project operations team with regards to safety, health and production in line with LMC strategy.
  • Plan and execute the wet weather plan to ensure mining operations are productively supported in the wet season.
  • Monitor and control section costs in line with budgets.
  • Inspect daily operations and projects in progress and upon completion to assure the quality of the work.
  • Provide administrative, technical direction to the projects and contractors
  • Forecasts necessary funds for staffing, materials and capital improvement projects.
  • Develop plans and coordinate the work plan for assigned projects and responsibilities which may include project management, cost estimates and program development.
  • Coordinate work with other units and site departments.
  • Execute reclamation and environmental activities.
  • Manage and control ancillary equipment and all rental machines.
  • Develop, implement, maintain safe work procedures and promote high safety / health awareness.
  • Actively promote, monitor, and participate in safe working practices.
  • Identify risks in the work area and use of correct controls.
  • Develop and maintain a team structure that adheres to Barrick’s Organizational framework policy, enables teamwork and personal development while focusing on the achievement of results
  • Be visible in the workplace, promoting accountability and responsibility, empowering the workforce and targeted personnel to do the same.
  • Be available to rotate on shift, as and where operational needs may arise.
  • Enforcing all applicable mining standards that relate to the achievement of key production metrics

Experience & Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Mining Engineering degree (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 4 Years experience in mining industry
  • Experience in planning large open pit mines
  • Experience in Mine Planning, Design and Production Engineering
  • Competent with Microsoft office suite of engineering design and CAD software
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication
  • Proven ability to deliver results and act as change agent
  • Displays initiative and teamwork skills
  • Physically fit and able to pass pre-employment medical
  • Holder of Zambian Drivers license.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia
