Study Coordinator – CIDRZ



Main duties

  • Catalyzes awareness raising, training, capacity building among health workers and the catchment population at study sites for Hepatitis B
  • Fosters teamwork and communication among study team, which include specialized doctors at University Teaching Hospital (this is a collaborative study)
  • Helps Investigator to ensure the study adheres to protocol and established procedures
  • Meets with program staff on a regular basis to assess progress and problem solve issues
  • Supervises Research Assistants and Nurses
  • With the support of the Investigator, serves as a key liaison with hospital staff, as well as other key governmental and non-governmental stakeholders to ensure that study implementation proceeds as planned
  • Liaises with CIDRZ and UTH laboratories to ensure samples are handled using international best practices
  • Helps identify roadblocks to planned study activities and works at all levels to identify solutions to promote full and timely realization of the study
  • Contributes to the development of abstracts & papers and participate in presentations at national & regional meetings
  • Oversee day to day project related activities and personnel to help with delegation of tasks, prioritization, and overall responsibility in task completion
  • Maintains approvals and regulatory documents for the study
  • Contributes to the development and documentation of standard operating procedures, research tools, and related materials
  • Performs rapid point-of-care tests on urine or finger prick blood samples when necessary
  • Supports collection of data
  • Helps trouble-shoot problems that arise with data collection and/or implementation
  • Contributes and supports the development of period reports and plans for international collaborators, local regulators, and the study sponsor
  • Recruits and supervises a team of research assistants, nurses, and peer counsellors
  • Liaises with operations units to ensure the study is conducted per internal guidelines
  • Obtains and reviews for accuracy the budget to actual on a monthly basis
  • Provides Investigator with guidance on budgeting and financial matters

 

Qualifications



  • Either a Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH) or equivalent (e.g. MSc, MS in a health science) OR a degree in Nursing or Medicine
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience coordinating biomedical or behavioural projects
  • Good familiarity with the Zambian health system
  • Strong computer skills including email, Microsoft excel and PowerPoint
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including with international contacts
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills
  • Exhibits team spirit and works collaboratively with colleagues to achieve study goals
  • Keeps abreast of new developments and actively seeks to contribute to the learning of colleagues and subordinates; shows willingness to learn from others; seeks feedback
  • Comfortable with ambiguity, shifting priorities, and need to juggle competing demands in a fast-paced and challenging work environment
