Trident College is located on a 113-hectare nature reserve in Solwezi, Zambia. The school opened its doors to the first pioneering group of pupils and parents in September 2013. In addition to serving the  educational needs of the local copper mining community, the College, which is now home to over 280 pupils, is rapidly becoming the boarding school of choice in Zambia and a firm option for parents and pupils throughout southern Africa.

Boarding House Matron: Senior Boys Boarding House

Our successful applicant will be a mature female who can provide a motherly figure to 60 boys from 13 to 18 years old. This role requires someone who is caring and has a passion for working with young people.

Boarding house matrons are key members of the boarding house team and are primary personnel in the welfare of Trident students. Boarding Matrons work closely with the rest of the house team, the Boarding Manager and the Head of house.

Key personal skills Matrons will need are the ability to exert authority, command respect, provide boundaries, intuitively assess student well-being, and provide physical and mental support to all boys as the need arises.

Daily duties include, but are not limited to, ensuring that all boys are well, organised, and happy, assisting with the laundry process, supervising the cleaning team in-house, attending the clinic with ill students on rotation basis including night bedside stays as required. They should also work to keep a homely atmosphere in the house.



KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervision of cleaning team.
  • Recording of breakages and maintenance issues.
  • Managing and supervising laundry procedures.
  • Mealtime supervision.
  • Managing pupil medication and On-call in case of emergency.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE/ QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in a school residential learning environment or in education
  • Minimum Grade 12 certificate
  • A tertiary certificate in hospitality/education is an advantage

DESIRABLE QUALITIES

  • As a key member of the pupil welfare team, Matrons should possess sound written and verbal communication skills.
  • Boarding houses are dynamic environments, Matrons should be comfortable making decisions, and be proactive problems solvers.
  • Working with many pupils from diverse backgrounds, Matrons should be comfortable in addressing behaviour, working with systems, and acting with initiative and authority.
