Job Summary

  • Manage and coordinate budgeting and management reporting procedures at the plant and ensure availability of up-to-date and accurate information on budgeted and actual financial activities, to support informed decision-making by management.
  • Take a leading role in periodic physical count of bulk, liquid, solid and spare parts as well as all fixed assets of the plant in adherence with the group standards. Ensure timely reconciliation and reporting of accurate inventory values supported by analysis and documents.
  • Monitor daily input to the ERP system adopted by the Company and perform all steps and processes requirements to close the period on a timely basis consistent with group standards.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Circulate the annual business planning guidelines/ assumptions and provide guidance to Head, Plant Finances and other budget holders during the planning process.
  • Manage collation of budget inputs across the Company ensuring inputs from all plants/ functional areas are in compliance with stated guidelines and prepare consolidated annual budget.
  • Monitor approved budget allocations by obtaining information on revenue and expenditure, and reporting variances on a monthly basis.
  • Drive periodic budget forecasting and recommend budget review as required.
  • Develop periodic and other ad hoc budget reports, forecasts and analysis.
  • Manage periodic business performance monitoring and reporting process – liaise with plants and relevant units to obtain data on defined metrics and generate monthly business performance statements, noting major deviations from planned budget and risk areas.
  • Ensure timely and accurate preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual management reports to aid executive management decision-making process.
  • Conduct in depth variance analysis to explain deviation from budgeted/forecasted performance and highlights management actions needed to correct the situation.
  • Allocate costs for central or joint expenditure to relevant cost centres in line with group cost allocation policies.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Financial Controller. Assist in circulating the annual business planning guidelines/ assumptions and provide guidance/ assistance to budget holders during the planning process at the plant.
  • Lead in periodic stock counts, and carry out valuations and reconciliations to resolve discrepancies in general ledger.
  • Prepare first drafts of relevant periodic and/ or ad hoc reports including Cost Control Reports, etc.
  • Lead monthly physical count of raw bulk materials, pp bags, fuel, diesel and other production supplies.
  • Lead the quarterly count of spares
  • Monitor daily SAP entries on PP and MM Module
  • Prepare monthly quantity consumption schedules for MPR purposes
  • Perform cost sheet review for imported purchases as well as raw materials requiring landed cost rule such as gypsum, pumice and local coal.
  • Perform GL & cost centre review for every PR/PO prior to authorization / approvals
  • Perform SAP cost run every month end and assist the PP and MM.
  • Calculate monthly actual cost and analyse variance with SAP Std Cost.
  • Maintain activity prices and standard cost in SAP.
  • Review the spares ageing report and submit to FRM for group reporting.
  • Perform any other duties as may be assigned by the Team Lead, Management Accounting.

Education and Work Experience



  • Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent in Accounting, Finance, Economics or any other related discipline.
  • Relevant professional qualifications such as ACA, CIMA, CPA, ACCA will be an added advantage
  • Minimum of Five (5) years relevant work experience.
  • Full Grade 12 Certificate with Credits or Better in English and Mathematics.

Skills and Competencies

  • Good understanding of trends, challenges, opportunities, regulations and legislations relating to the cement manufacturing industry.
  • Good knowledge and understanding of finance best practices, IFRS, and other applicable accounting standards.
  • Working knowledge of financial systems, including SAP.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Good organisational skills.
  • Good data gathering, analysis and problem solving skills
  • High ethical standards and integrity.
  • Proficiency in the use of MS Office tools.
