Operations Manager – AFIL Engineering Limited

Role and responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities include planning and scheduling production, managing inventory, and increasing the efficiency of operations.

Responsibilities in detail include:

(1) Plan manpower and material resources in conjunction with supervisors
(2) Schedule and monitor the work progress
(3) Ensure availability of inventory as per plan and its’ optimal use
(4) Focus on quality control to avoid rework and customer complaints
(5) Engage and motivate workshop crew into deliverables
(6) Maintain committed delivery
(7) Provide weekly reports on the progress
(8) Incorporate a system of managing and monitoring the performance
(9) Develop and implement cost-effective alternatives and improvements to manufacturing procedures and processes
(10) Liaise with marketing for new product development
(11) Handle training, skill development and disciplinary issues
(12) Develop and implement SOP towards handling waste and potential re-use
(13) Work with management team towards translating the objectives into goals
(14) Take ownership of SHEQ and enforce all statutory/ compliance requirements in conjunction with HR policies

Education, experience, and skills:

(1) A minimum of bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering
(2) About 15 years of experience in fabrication workshop, of which at least five years in supervisory role.
(3) Good communications skills – written and oral
(4) Ability to work with customers, suppliers, and employees alike

Essential requirement:

It is essential that candidate demonstrates prior experience working in/ as steel fabrication
or production Manager, in heavy duty and project driven environment. This role has a
large workforce to supervise and therefore, experience with managing 200+ workers – of
varied skills/ trades is key to being considered. Knowledge of reading and interpreting
technical drawings and assembly is compulsory. The prospective candidate is also
expected to have knowledge of MS Office tools and Engineering software.
