Job Purpose/Mission

The Lead Engineer will be part of the Product & Strategy team to lead the technical team focused on PV project development, design and construction. The Lead Engineer will lead a team of technician installers to design high quality and efficient solar solutions. Responsibilities include solar solution design and layout, interconnection design and equipment selection, energy production analysis, system commissioning and troubleshooting, evaluating future technologies and developing internal products and offerings. This position requires exceptional cross-function skills including coordination with ENGIE Energy Access Zambia’s Commercial, Customer Experience and Operations teams in addition to interfacing with customers, suppliers and global support staff.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage design and electrical engineering for solar projects throughout the lead creation and execution stages.
  • Configure PV systems based on site conditions and customers’ needs and expectations.
  • Provide high-quality system designs, calculations and pricing for renewable energy projects independently.
  • Review load profiles and delegates the tasks to other team members during project execution.
  • Perform electrical works such as installation of inverters and battery banks, changeover switches and perform safety electrical checks.
  • Review system specifications and advise design changes to global team to achieve solar design objectives.
  • Train installer technicians as and when needed to do quality installations, maintenance checks and quality assurance checks

  • Manage multiple clients at a minimum supervision.
  • Work with global team in forecasting of the equipment’s needed for installations.
  • Plan and implement maintenance activities for the PV systems installed.
  • Maintain records for the price lists, including updated information on prices from distributors through direct contact, and sales materials.
  • Ensure compliance with ENGIE Energy Access safety standards, practices, codes.
  • Stay up to date to local laws, regulations, and standards on solar electrical installations.
  • Ability to read tender documents and prepare all necessary documents for tender submission.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge And Skills

Experience:

  • Experience of 6 years is required, 3+ years in solar energy installation for household and commercial use is preferred including experience in solar water installations
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience conducting all essential tests procedures required in entire solar project Implementation.

Qualifications:



  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, renewable energy.
  • Professional electrical licenses required, accredited by the respective government authorities

Language(s):

  • English
  • Local language

Technology:



  • Working knowledge of PVsyst or other software on PV system design is required.
  • Electrical design knowledge including reading blueprints and drawings.
  • Familiarity with different solar technologies, modules, inverters and tracking systems.
  • Experience of solar system performance analysis and detailed operational assessment.
  • Proficiency in using AutoCAD for drafting and design of electrical systems is highly preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to work at great heights.
  • Prolonged periods of kneeling, bending, crouching, and climbing ladders.
  • Must be able to lift at least 35 pounds at a time
